How to Make Your Own Almond Milk

Sundays are generally my “experimental” days. I’ll try new recipes or find the time to bake something I never have before. Today featured a quick, simple and cheap recipe: almond milk!

But first, I started my morning with a 60-minute spin class. In my opinion, nothing ever compares to the feeling of a great spin class. I walk out dripping sweat and full of energy — the greatest workout high umm… EVER! Comparable to my first half marathon in half the time 😉

Then, it was time to get busy in the kitchen:

You’ll need:

  • One cup almonds
  • Water
  • Dates or sweetener of choice
  • Blender

Last night, I soaked one cup of almonds in the fridge and left them in there overnight (8-12 hours is optimal). This morning, I drained the water and placed the ready-to-go almonds in my blender with 4 cups of water. (If you’d like to sweeten the almond milk, add 5-6 dates, unsweetened cocoa powder, Truvia or sweetner of your choice.) Blend until the almonds are completely dissolved and voila! You have almond milk!

I prefer my almond milk a little grainy so if you don’t, I recommend running the almond milk through a cheese cloth. Panty hose work well too! Come on ladies, I know we have an extra pair of those waiting for some use.

I spent the rest of my day soaking up the sun with Peanut and studying for an exam I have tomorrow.

Gotta love Florida weather 😉

What’s your favorite easy recipe to make? Mine would have to be kale chips. So delicious — I’m hooked!
